South Luangwa Safari

This 7 night South Luangwa Safari is spent at Kapani Lodge combined with walking safaris between the Bush Camps of Luwi, Nsolo and Kakuli.

Please note that all of our Zambia safaris can be tailor-made. This itinerary is just a suggestion and can be amended to better fit your requirements.

Day 1: Kapani Lodge, South Luangwa National Park

On arrival at Lusaka Airport we can arrange a meet and greet service to assist with immigration and customs formalities and the transfer to the domestic departures lounge for your flight to Mfuwe.

You will be met at Mfuwe Airport by your safari guide who will drive you to Kapani Lodge, usually arriving in time for brunch. You will have the rest of the day to relax, until gameviewing this evening which will be by vehicle leaving camp around 4pm. You will stop for sundowners in the Park and then continue with the second half of the drive, which is conducted after dark in search of nocturnal species. You will return to camp at around 7:30pm in time for dinner.

Day 2: Kapani Lodge, South Luangwa National Park

You wake early and meet around the camp-fire for a light breakfast whilst watching the sun rise over the lagoon. The gamedrive this morning will last for three to four hours, bringing you back to camp for a hearty brunch and allowing time afterwards for relaxation in your room or by the pool before the afternoon drive. Again this will return after dark in time for dinner.

Day 3: Luwi Bush Camp, South Luangwa National Park

This morning will start in much the same manner as the previous day, with early breakfast and a gamedrive; but you will pack your bags and take them with you because this morning's gamedrive will deliver you to your next camp, Luwi Bush Camp.

On arrival you will be served with brunch and briefed on the walking safaris that lie ahead of you. Later in the afternoon you will set out from camp on foot accompanied by your professional guide and an armed escort scout for your first true walking safari.

Day 4: Luwi Bush Camp, South Luangwa National Park

A full day exploring the area around Luwi Bush Camp. There is a permanent lagoon next to camp complete with a large number of hippo and crocodiles. This evening the walk will finish with sundowners overlooking this wonderful spectacle.

Day 5: Nsolo Bush Camp, South Luangwa National Park

This morning you will rise early and set off from the camp-fire on foot. Your morning walking safari will end at Nsolo Bush Camp where you will find your bags waiting and the camp staff ready to welcome you.

After brunch you will have a few hours to rest before your afternoon walk.

Day 6: Nsolo Bush Camp, South Luangwa National Park

A full day spent at Nsolo Bush Camp. The early morning walk will be followed by brunch and an afternoon at leisure, either reading some of the reference books in the lounge or just watching game come down to the pools in the riverbed in front of camp. This afternoon you can drive or walk or try a mixture of both, the choice will be yours.

Day 7: Kakuli Bush Camp, South Luangwa National Park

Tea and toast heralds another dawn at Nsolo Bush Camp and the conversation will often include an interpretation of all the noises that kept you awake through the night.

You head off again on foot and follow the course of the Luwi sand river towards its confluence with the main Luangwa River. Positioned overlooking this confluence you will find Kakuli Bush Camp, where a cool drink and brunch will be waiting and your bags will have been delivered to your tent.

Nightdrives from Kakuli Bush Camp are usually very worthwhile so again you can choose to walk, drive or do a little of both.

Day 8: End of safari

This morning you will have the opportunity to stay a little longer in bed. Breakfast at Kakuli Bush Camp will be followed by a gamedrive through the Park ending up at Mfuwe airport for your flight to Lusaka and onwards.
