Kambi ya Tembo

Kambi ya Tembo is situated in a private concession area of the Kilimanjaro region of northern Tanzania, bordering Kenya at the Amboseli National Park. As the only permanent tented camp in this area, it offers spectacular landscapes with magnificent views of Kilimanjaro, Mount Meru, Ol Doinyo Longido and the Amboseli plains.

Kambi ya Tembo consists of 20 tents each with private en-suite bathroom facilities. You can sit and watch the natural world pass by from the ample sun decks.

The camp offers spectacular landscapes, excellent game viewing and close interaction with the local Masai. The neighboring Masai still live in the traditional way and follow all the traditional ceremonies. They are very friendly and unexposed to the commercial relationship with tourists that is common in other more visited areas.

Kambi ya Tembo is located in one of the few areas in Africa where huge Elephant Bulls, more than 50 years old, carrying tusks of considerable size, are regularly seen. These bulls, some of them living permanently in the zone, together with herds of mothers and calves use to migrate between the swamps of Amboseli National Park and the Acacia woodlands of the other side of the border in search of water and food.

Activities at Kambi ya Tembo include game drives in open vehicles; night game drives to see the nocturnal animals and walking safaris escorted by Maasai warriors. Also on offer are cultural interaction with the local Maasai, visiting bomas, the market and a village school.
